Welcome to Aldersyde, Robin Hoods Bay, a red brick Victorian villa, built in 1893 by Master Mariner Issac Mills and builder Emmerson Russell for local Ship Owner Richard Knightly-Smith.
The property can be found in Upper Bay, a 5 minute walk from the atmospheric and maze-like cobbled streets of the older Lower Bay, once a fishing village and smugglers haunt.

We have had the pleasure of living in this beautiful part of the world since 2006 and have begun a new chapter in our lives with the creation of Aldersyde Bed and Breakfast.
As a result the property has recently been renovated to a high standard offering guests the perfect place to stay, to sample the delights of the village and further afield.

Robin Hoods Bay is situated on the dramatic North Yorkshire Coastline within the stunning scenery of the North York Moors National Park.
Alfred Wainwright’s 192 mile Coast to Coast Walk stretches from St Bees in the the Lake District, through the Yorkshire Dales and culminates here at the sea’s edge in Robin Hoods Bay.
The walk originally described in his book of the same name in 1973 takes the walker through the three National Parks mentioned above each providing a unique and differing experience of the English landscape.

The Cleveland Way, one of England’s Great Walking Trails of 109 miles in length, stretching from Helmsley inland to Filey on the Coast, celebrated it’s 50th year in 2019 and runs through the village.
This trail too provides a visual feast for the walker.

The Tour de Yorkshire cycle race is a regular visitor to the streets in and around Robin Hoods Bay.

A walk along the beach can result in spotting Grey Seals, Birds of Prey and various seabirds and and maybe even digging up the odd fossil! This is, after all, part of the renowned Jurassic coast.
Baytown's location within the National Park, makes it an ideal location for exploring the wilds of the North York Moors, a perfect place for walking among rolling Dales, edged with ancient dry stone walls, littered with historic buildings and picturesque villages.
Or, if you just want to wind down, you can do so by exploring the selection of shops, pubs and restaurants in Bay

If venturing out of Bay, we are located 6 miles from Historic Whitby, with it's medieval Abbey and Gothic connections. It was here that Bram Stoker was inspired to write "Dracula" and Whitby's Tate Hill Sands the setting for Dracula's landing in England.
It is also world renowned for it's trade in Jet, the fossilised remains of the Monkey Puzzle Tree, or Araucaria, which is crafted into items of jewellery. Whitby, like Bay has cobbled streets and alleyways just waiting to be discovered.

The North York Moors Railway runs heritage trains between Whitby & Pickering, providing a beautiful train journey through the Moors countryside, stopping at tiny villages along the line.
There are other places of interest within reach of Robin Hood's Bay, Including the coastal villages of Sandsend, Staithes & Runswick Bay. All of which feature on the Cleveland Way.

A little inland, you can find Dalby Forest, with its walking and mountain biking trails.

Wether you want an active break, or to just relax and unwind, Aldersyde is the perfect base from which to discover Robin Hoods Bay, the North York Moors and beyond.
